Lane Avenue Bridge

Columbus, Ohio

With its unique blend of state-of-the-art engineering and architectural detail, the new Lane Avenue Bridge provides a dramatic gateway to the main campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Spanning the Olentangy River, this landmark cable-stayed structure replaced a crumbling and obsolete concrete arch bridge built in 1919. The new bridge provides six traffic lanes and two twelve-foot wide sidewalks, with spiral concrete stairways to pedestrian underpass plazas along each bank of the river. Under a Value Engineering Change Proposal developed by Mahan, the superstructure and main towers were redesigned, allowing the bridge to be reopened five months sooner than originally planned. Winner of the 2005 Associated General Contractors of America "Build America" Award for Best Project, Highway and Transportation Category, and the 2004 AGC of Ohio "Build Ohio" Award for Best Project, Industrial and Heavy Category.

Precast and cast-in-place concrete and steel come together to form the new suspension bridge spanning the Olentangy River Completely redesigned Lane Avenue bridge. Beautiful cable-stayed structure spaning the scenic Olentangy river. Lane Avenue Bridge is a sight to see at night. Shot of what precast concrete can do. We win awards with our bridges.
