CJ Mahan Construction Company specializes in large-scale, heavy civil engineering projects including the development and rehabilitation of concrete and steel bridges, water treatment facilities, locks, dams, and other challenging structures. Serving government institutions and public agencies for the more than three decades, the company is dedicated to safety, the creation of cost-effective projects, and the innovative application of progressive, dynamic construction techniques and equipment.

With more than 29 consecutive years of profitability (and realizing revenue near $100 million in 2006), the company has consistently maintained its core values while being receptive to, and initiating industry advancements. CJ Mahan Construction Company is best known for its high-profile signature projects including five major bridges spanning the Ohio River, four cable stay bridges, as well as numerous civil structures throughout Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee.

1972
Founded as a surveying business by Charles Jeffrey Mahan
1973
Expanded to construction and construction management including earthwork and structure projects
1975
Awarded first public works contract: $60,000 concrete retaining wall for Chillicothe Metropolitan Housing Authority, Ohio
1976
At age 22, Mahan became youngest contractor to be awarded a prime contract with State of Ohio: Mt. Orab Dam for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources
1980
First marine venture: a six-span bridge over the Maumee River in Defiance, Ohio
1981 – present
Gene Horne and Malcolm White joined the C.J. Mahan Construction Company bringing with them further field expertise and engineering skills.
Company continues to expand operations into neighboring states.
